The Hungarian Government Scholarship (Stipendium Hungaricum) is a fully funded program that provides Ugandan students with the opportunity to pursue undergraduate, master's, and doctoral degrees at universities in Hungary. Established by the Hungarian government to strengthen international ties through education, this scholarship is awarded on a merit basis to students from over 80 partner countries, including Uganda. Accommodation: Either free dormitory placement or a contribution towards housing costs is provided, ensuring a safe and supportive living environment.

Monthly Stipend: Recipients receive a monthly allowance to help with living expenses. For undergraduate and master’s students, the stipend is around EUR 120, while Ph.D. students receive EUR 450.

Fields of Study

The Stipendium Hungaricum offers diverse fields of study, including sciences, engineering, humanities, arts, and social sciences. Programs are taught in English, Hungarian, or both, depending on the course and institution.

 Eligibility

Applicants must be Ugandan nationals with a valid passport.
 They must meet the academic requirements for the degree level they are applying for. High school graduates may apply for undergraduate programs, while a bachelor's degree is required for a master’s program and a master’s degree for a doctoral program.
Proficiency in English or Hungarian is necessary, depending on the language of instruction of the chosen program.

Application Process

Online Application: Applications are submitted through the Stipendium Hungaricum portal and require the completion of a profile, along with documents like transcripts, a CV, a motivation letter, and a health certificate.
Nomination by Ministry: Applicants are then nominated by the Ugandan Ministry of Education and Sports.
Final Selection by Host Institution: After nomination, Hungarian universities review the applications and make the final selection based on merit and program-specific criteria.

The application period generally opens in mid-November and closes in mid-January. However, applicants are advised to consult the official Ministry of Education and Sports website and the Stipendium Hungaricum website for exact deadlines each year.
